National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 600 unemployed youths in Ogun State under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme in vocational skill acquisition. The training, which began on Tuesday, would be taking place in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director General of the NDE, Dr Nasiru Ladan, represented by the NDE state coordinator, Mr Adekunle Bamgbade, said the 20 local governments in the state had 30 trainees each to benefit from the programme.
“The target groups of this scheme include unskilled men and women who may be primary or secondary school leavers, school drop-outs and other unemployed persons who wish to be trained in marketable skills. The trainees will be posted to well-established master craftsmen with standard training outlets to get three months of intensive training,” Ladan said.
Meanwhile, Ladan charged beneficiaries of the Micro Enterprises Enhancement Scheme to utilise the dispensed funds judiciously.
Ladan, who was represented by the state Coordinator of NDE in Gombe, Hassan Mustapha, stated this at the disbursement ceremony to petty women traders on Tuesday.
Ladan said, “Today we are giving about 110 women the sum of N10,000 each. That is 10 from each of the 11 LGAs of the state. This will help to enhance their micro and petty businesses.”
