Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Chief Adejare Bello, has urged high-net worth individuals in the country to assist indigent but brilliant students of various higher institutions by sponsoring their education.
Bello spoke at the presentation of cheques to 585 recipients of a N150m empowerment grant sponsored by a philanthropist, Alhaji Abdul-Kabir Aliu, in Ede, Osun State.
He explained that 64 of the beneficiaries were students of some higher institutions who received various sums in scholarships, adding that they were selected from Akaje, Imole and Agbarabiada’s compounds in Ede.
According to him, the government cannot be expected to solely finance education, hence the “need for more involvement of well-meaning Nigerians. Doing this will eradicate poverty faster than many hurriedly put together poverty eradication initiatives.”
